"Destroying the Old Gods: Sacred Images and Idols at the End of the Fourth Century CE"
Professor Jensen’s research and publications focus on the relationship between early Christian art and literature and examine the ways that visual images and architectural spaces should be regarded as modes of theological expression. Her publications contend that visual images do much more than interpret sacred texts; they also enhance liturgical settings, reflect the nature and content of devotional piety, and explicate ritual practices. She teaches courses on late antique Christian and Jewish art, the history and evolution of Christian architecture, and controversies over images and idols in ancient and early medieval Christianity. Her current book project, From Idols to Icons, discusses visual representations of divine beings and controversies over the miraculous power of saints' shrines and relics.
