Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
with Matt Tanney '05
You are invited to join Matt Tanney '05, Director of Athletics and Campus Wellness, for a book discussion covering Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike by Phil Knight. Matt used this book as an introduction for Wabash students this fall to his Freshmen Tutorial, Sports and the Law: Mascots, Money, and Monopolies.
This will be a 90-minute classroom-style discussion conducted via Zoom. Participants have the choice of registering for either November 10 or November 12. The session will begin at 7:00 p.m. EST. Space is limited.
Full description of the Freshmen Tutorial: Sports and the Law: Mascots, Money, and Monopolies
The course explores complicated cultural issues through the lens of sports and the law, such as multi-million dollar athletics departments on college campuses, the evolution of gender equality in society through athletics participation, and current legal sports issues in the headlines. Should elite college athletes receive compensation for their name, image, and likeness? How do we define amateurism? Does legalized sports wagering affect the integrity of the game?
