After the Bell: The Hidden Benefits of Playing with Dad-Dr. Eric Olofson: Virtual Wabash , 7:00PM - 8:00PM
Join us for this live virtual event being offered for Wabash alumni, spouses, partners, parents, and friends.
Each year Wabash "rings-out" a new class to our alumni ranks. After the Bell offers opportunities to come back to the Wabash classroom and attend virtual liberal arts sessions with current faculty members.
Each day, the stereotype of a father roughhousing with his children plays out on living room floors throughout the world. But what are the benefits to children from winning or losing wrestling matches with their dads? We will talk about why fathers are more likely to engage in roughhousing than mothers, why it doesn't matter which parent plays with children (or even whether it is a parent at all), and the ways in which children benefit from challenging play.
Dr. Eric Olofson, Associate Professor of Psychology
Dr. Eric Olofson has been teaching at Wabash since 2008. Although he arrived as a specialist in infant cognition, his research and teaching interests have shifted toward father-child relationship. He and his wife, Carrie, live just a few blocks from campus with their two daughters Soren and Sadie. When he's not teaching or going to athletics competitions at Wabash, he can be found playing Ultimate with students, officiating his daughters' swim meets, or roasting the best coffee Indiana has to offer.
This will be a classroom-style discussion conducted via Zoom, which may include full and small group discussion. A list of guiding questions will be sent to participants a few weeks prior to each event. Advance registration is required. Space is limited, so register today.
