Wabash scored 21 total points in the first day of events at the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Track and Field Championship Meet. The two-day competition is being held at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Mike Russell earned the only All-Conference honors on day one for the Little Giants, taking second place in the long jump with a leap of 6.67 meters (21 feet, 10-3/4 inches). Teammate Emmanuel Aouad took fourth place with a distance of 6.43 meters (21 feet, 1-1/2 inches) to score five points for Wabash.

Matt Scheller and Kyle Edwards took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the shot put. Scheller's mark of 13.77 meters (45 feet, 2-1/4 inches) helped him earn two points for Wabash. Edwards picked up a point with his mark of 13.28 meters (43 feet, 7 inches). Sam Glowinski took seventh place in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.76 meters (12 feet, 4 inches). Devin Kelley was seventh in the discus throw (40.28 meters; 132 feet, 2 inches). Colin Dunlap grabbed eighth place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:40.48 to score the final team point on Friday night.

Six Little Giants qualified for Saturday's finals in their various events. Freshman Kevin McCarthy won his heat of the 800-meter run, finishing over three seconds ahead of the next fastest time by posting a 1:53.08. Wes Chamblee and Aouad will compete in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles. Chamblee won his heat with a time of 55.94, while Aouad posted the fourth-fastest time in the heats with a time of 56.85.

Aouad will also compete in the 110-meter hurdles. His time of 15.17 was the third-fastest of the day. Wade Heiny will join Aouad in Saturday's finals after finishing with the eighth-best time of 16.79. Russell will compete in the 100-meter dash after a sixth-place finish in the prelims (11.19).
