Evan Rhinesmith joined teammates Craig Vetor and Jordon Blackwell as new Wabash swimming record holders. Rhinesmith set a new school record in the 100 breaststroke in a time trial as part of the second day of the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship meet.

Rhinesmith (right) posted a time of 57.90 in a time trial at the conclusion of Friday night's scheduled events to break the mark of 57.94 set by Colin Fahey at the 2005 conference championship meet. Rhinesmith finished fifth in the scheduled 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.80 before making the decision to go after the record later in the evening. Vetor broke the school record in the 200 freestyle in Friday's preliminary round. Blackwell set a new Wabash record in the 100 free in a Thursday evening time trial.

Paul Buescher added a 12th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.82. Jordan Extine grabbed 17th place (1:01.47).

Vetor took eighth in the finals of the 200 free with a time of 1:45.25. Blackwell finished 11th (1:42.74), while Brian Graham was 16th (1:47.32). Blaine Cooper-Surma was 19th (1:47.27). Logan Falley touched the wall in 1:48.08 to finish 21st. Chris Kermin completed the team scoring for the Little Giants in the event with a 22nd-place finish (1:48.42).

Four Little Giants scored team points in the 100 butterfly, led by an 11th-place finish by Eric Vaughn (51.63). Adam Current took 12th place (51.78), while David Birrer was 14th (52.31). Robert Fozkos finished in 19th place (53.24).

Elijah Sanders and Pete Hewitt scored for Wabash in the finals of the 400-yard individual medley. Sanders finished 12th with a time of 4:13.13, while Hewitt was 15th after touching the wall in 4:20.55. Nick Rockefeller and Steve Zajac completed the individual scoring for the Little Giants with finals performances in the 100 backstroke. Rockefeller finished 16th (54.73). Zajac was 20th (55.83).

Wabash finished in the top-five in both of Friday night's schedule relay races. The quartet of Graham, Blackwell, Falley, and Vetor finished fourth in the 800-yard free relay with a time of 7:00.41. Rockefeller, Rhinesmith, Vaughn, and Fozkos were fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:35.15).

The Little Giants moved into fourth place in the team scoring, passing Allegheny by finishing with a two-day total of 498 points. Denison leads the men's team standings with 1,196 points. Defending champion Kenyon is second (996.5) with Wittenberg in third (583.5). Wooster (430), Allegheny (426), Oberlin (315), Ohio Wesleyan (223), and Hiram (211) complete the second day standings.

The three-day meet concludes Saturday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio with the preliminary round at 10 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
