Down on Spence's Farm
Planting
It's early May and planting time on the Spence Farm near Alamo. Here Jim Spence and the International 300 plant oats in his western field.
Good Earth
Jim takes a handful of good earth, with earthworms thriving and all the nutrients necessary for a good crop—unlike some farms, where the soil is essentially sterile without the addition of chemical fertilizers.
Pouring
Jim pours a bucket of oat seeds into the planter.
Ralph
Jim's dog, Ralph, loves these sunny, early spring days, and waits at the edge of the field for Jim to finish his work.
Horses
One of the Spence's horses basks in the afternoon sun.
Tulip tree
A young tulip tree establishes itself at the edge of the field.
