NCAC Photo Highlights

Before Saturday night's meet got underway Peter Casares and Ben Hewitt '05 share some thoughts. Hewitt was Casares' assistant at Wabash last year before taking a similar position at Kenyon for this season.

Starting block shots are the staple of photographing swimming. But there is something athletically poetic about the way swimmers fire off the blocks. Here, Blaine Cooper Surma'09 takes off in one of the relay events.

Freshman Adam Petro had a nice meet. The butterfly is one of the best, if not easiest, events to shoot. Most events are not easy at all. But a couple of my best shots were from the butterfly competition.

Swimming is one of those events where there are interesting things happening on deck besides in the pool. Here, Steve Sajak, Jordon Blackwell, and Nathan Rutz, cheer on one of their teammates.

This is an exampe of what you can do at deckside with a really big lense (135mm) and a little timing. Looks like freshman Elijah Sanders gets perfect dental checkups!

Diving is really tough to shoot until you get the hang of it. I like the look of this photo of Rob Fenoglio '09, though its always best to get faces.

Here is a shot of Fenoglio coming off the 1-meter board I took from the upper bleachers.

You always worry when someone sets a record or wins an event that you've missed the shot. I had several nice ones when Brent Graham broke the Wabash 500 free record. This one was the best.

Freshman Robert Fozkos had a great final night swim in the butterfly. This might be my favorite action shot of the meet. Even though it is butterfly, I caught him at the back of the stroke with lots of splashing water.

This is more of the deck stuff you don't always see in coverage. That's Elijah Sanders congratulating Brent Graham after the 500 freestyle record. Perhaps under-reported, Sanders also swam the 500 faster than John Murphy did 27 years ago but not quite as fast as Graham did moments before this picture.

You have to have at least one artsy shot to round out any collection. I like the water spray on this shot of Nick Rockefeller '10 taking off during one of the Saturday night relays.

Coach Casares enjoyed his team's best-ever success at the NCAC meet. He was a constant positive force on deck for his swimmers and most congenial to work with for the amount of content we were posting to the blog each day!
