Celebrating Darwin's Birthday (2)

Professor Emeritus Aus Brooks ’61 provided the musical highlight of the day, teaching revelers a song that had been a favorite of his colleague, the late Eliot Williams, and had been required singing for Wabash biology majors during Williams' tenure. The song, called "It's a Long Way from Amphioxus," was sung to the tune of "It's a Long Way to Tipperary."

Professor Brooks made sure it was an interdisciplinary songfest, urging his colleagues Leslie and Joe Day from the Classics department to sing along with the rest of the group. You can sing along, too (remember, it's song to the tune of "It's a Long Way to Tipperary"): "It's a long way from Amphioxus/It's a long way to us./It's a long way from Amphioxus/To the meanest human cuss./So it's goodbye to fins and gill slits/Hello lungs and hair!/It's a long way from Amphioxus/But we came here from there."
