FBI Agent Drew Northern to Give Talk at Wab

Wabash College will present a talk by Drew Northern, the FBI’s Chief Division Counsel/Supervisory Special Agent in the Indianapolis Field Office. He will give his talk at 7:30 p.m., Monday, September 24, in Lovell Lecture Room in Baxter Hall. The title of Northern’s presentation is “Cradle of Civilization and Chaos:  The FBI Major Crimes Task Force and the Lost City Iraqi Antiquities Operation.”

Northern is a 1989 graduate of Wabash College and majored in political science.  He has a law degree and served in the U.S. Navy’s JAG Corps.

Northern describes the presentation as follows: “Iraq 2007: As the United States continued operations in Iraq, the FBI Major Crimes Task Force in Baghdad was working with Iraqi law enforcement officials to restore the rule of law.  The Cradle of Civilization had devolved into a Cradle of Chaos in which sectarian violence, public corruption, and lawlessness threatened the stability of the Iraqi government and the safety of the Iraqi people. The FBI Baghdad Major Crimes Task Force conducted an operation which helped shut down a major antiquities smuggling pipeline, recovered stolen and counterfeit artifacts and locate a valuable archaeological site in dire need of cultural protection. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Drew Northern was the coordinator of this task force and the case agent on the Lost City Iraqi Antiquities Operation.”

His talk is free and open to the public.
