Two weeks after setting a new Wabash record in the distance medley relay, the foursome of
Cole Hruskovich,
John Haley,
Jake Waterman, and
Kevin McCarthy turned in one of the fastest times in the event in Division III history. The Little Giants took second in the DMR at the BU Valentine Invitational with a time of 9:50.49.
The quartet had set a new record at Indiana University two weeks earlier, crossing the finish line in 10:00.35. Saturday the Little Giants finished second to Bowdoin College's time of 9:49.27. Amherst College set the national Division III record a season ago with a time of 9:49.11.

Haley produced another school record later in the day, winning his section of the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.08 to edge out Allegheny's Taylor Throckmorton at the line. The finish was a possible preview of the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship race to be held at Wabash the first weekend in March. Haley's time topped that of Waterman (49.62) that was set last week at DePauw. Haley finished 24th overall in a field of 172 runners.
Waterman raced to a 14th-place finish in the 800-meter run with his quickest time of the season (1:51.72). He was competing against a total of 215 runners. McCarthy finished 43rd out of 253 runners in the mile (4:11.81).
While several Wabash athletes were competing in Boston, the majority of the team was working to win the 2012 DePauw University Indoor Invitational in Greencastle, Indiana. Freshman
Nathan Mueller won the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.41.
Patrick Posthauer finished fourth overall (8.78), while
Billy Rosson was fifth (8.87).
Joel Whittington took sixth place (8.97), while
John Bogucki finished seventh (9.03). Whittington was second in the 400-meter dash (51.45). Joseph Conti was ffith (52.93), with
Ivan Neshkov finsihing sixth (53.21).
James Kervan scored the final team points for Wabash in the 400 with a seventh-place finish (53.30).
Shane Hoerbert captured the top spot in the mile run with a time of 4:24.59.
Billy McManus finished third in the field, crossing the finish line in 4:27.09.
Zach Mahone took fifth place (4:30.13), while
Doug Baker was eighth (4:31.97).
Jacob Caddick finished first in the 800-meter run, posting a winning time of 1:59.22.
Sean Lewis scored a fifth-place finish (2:02.84).
Sean Hildebrand took second place in the 200-meter dash (23.37), while Mueller was fourth (23.57), and
Chet Riddle finished in fifth place (23.66). Hildebrand was also fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.29).
Charles Smothers finished eighth in the 60-meter finals with a time of 7.48.
Brian David took second place in the 3,000-meter run, crossing the finish line in 8:48.61.
Kenny Farris finished fifth (8:50.88).
Kris Nickle took second place in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters (6 feet, 0.75 inches). Posthauer finished fifth in the event by clearing 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8.75 inches).
Devin Kelley posted a leap of 11.86 meters (38 feet, 11 inches) to finish second in the triple jump. Bogucki finished fourth (11.79 meters; 38 feet, 8.25 inches), while
Grayden Gilmore captured seventh place (10.84 meters; 35 feet, 6.75 inches).
Jackson Reid cleared 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3.50 inches) for a second-place finish in the pole vault.
Matt Knox took fourth place (3.90 meters; 12 feet, 9.50 inches), while
Wesley Adams was fifth (3.60 meters, 11 feet, 9.75 inches).
Joel Beier took second place in the shot put (14.98 meters; 49 feet, 1.75 inches).
Derek De St Jean was fourth (14.36 meters; 47 feet, 1.50 inches). Pusateri finished in sixth place (13.42 meters; 44 feet, 0.50 inches).
Hunt scored a fourth-place finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 6.15 meters (20 feet, 2.25 inches). Brad Pusateir finished seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 14.15 meters (46 feet, 5.25 inches).
Wabash finished first in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 3:28.65. The Little Giants scored 192 points as a team, finishing ahead of Bethel in second place with 131 points.
