Wabash saw an early 1-0 lead disappear Saturday afternoon at Mud Hollow Field in a 3-1 Homecoming loss to the Hiram College Terriers.

The Little Giants scored first in their North Coast Athletic Conference season-opening match on an unassisted goal by Allan Swan seven minutes into the match. Hiram came back to tie the match in the 18th minute when Ryan Greenhill's pass led to a Petar Knezevic goal.

"We played some good soccer in the first half for about 15 to 20 minutes and then we shut it off, we just stopped playing," head coach Roberto Giannini said. "We gave Hiram its only real opportunity in the first half. Hiram took advantage of our mistake and tied the match at 1-1.

"When we came back out in the second half, we had control of the ball most of the half but really didn't create any good chances to score. Then we started to lose shape and focus. The last time I checked a soccer game lasts 90 minutes, and we're giving away too many goals and chances in the last minutes of the match. We need to regroup and focus for the whole 90 minutes of the game as a team."

Greenhill added a second assist, finding Luke Salmen for the eventual game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the match. The Terriers added an insurance goal in the closing seconds on a shot from George Schatz.

Wabash (5-4, 0-1 NCAC) took five shots at the net and 11 total shot attempts. Swan finished with four shots and two shots on goal to lead the Little Giants. Ian MacDougall recorded four saves out of seven Hiram (3-6, 1-0 NCAC) shots on net.

The Little Giants return to action Wednesday afternoon with a home non-conference match against Wheaton College at 4 p.m.

Results: Hiram 3, Wabash 1
