Wabash College’s Visiting Artists will present the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra at 8 p.m., Thursday, October 18, in Salter Hall in the Fine Arts Center.
Born of the bloodless "Velvet Revolution," the Czech Republic has spawned a renaissance of artistic activity in Prague, including the revitalization of international touring by the celebrated Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Formed in 1977 by Pavel Prantl and colleagues from the Czech Philharmonic, today’s chamber orchestra comprises musicians from both the Czech Philharmonic and Prague Radio
Soloists for the 30th Anniversary tour in October 2007 include the much-recorded oboist Jana Brozkov?, solo oboe of the Czech Philharmonic and the young Czech violin virtuoso Barbora Kol?rov?, who has performed as soloist with the orchestra on multiple tours.
The Journal de Geneve (Switzerland) says this about the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, "The precision and artistry of the Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra are a wonder to behold. Each note is perfect, each phrase a study in musicality. And the musicality is very distinctly Czech."
Seating for Visiting Artists Series events will be by general admission, though free tickets are required for Visiting Artists Series programs.
