About the cover

Harold McDonald, art instructor at Wabash from 1952 to 1969, photographed his friend and colleague, Professor of French emeritus Dick Strawn, outside of Yandes Hall on a foggy morning circa 1958.

A gifted painter, photographer and teacher, McDonald was the wellspring of Wabash’s current art program

“He would describe the work of the masters, their context, techniques, how they mixed color, and suddenly what had seemed a mystery was clear,” recalls former student Jack Spurway ’69. “It was a wonderful way to learn.”
