Acceptance of Gifts In-Kind
(This statement revised March 1998)
These policies conform to Internal Revenue Service regulations and the approved practice of the Association of College and Research Libraries of the American Library Association.
- The appraisal of a gift to the library is the responsibility of the donor since it is the donor who benefits financially from any such gift to the college.**
- To protect both the donor and the college, no member of the Wabash College library staff will appraise any potential gift.
- The library reserves the right to use the gift in the manner it deems is in the best interests of the college. The items may be added to the collections, presented to another institution, or sold to acquire other materials that may more directly support the current academic program of the college.
- Shortly after receipt of the gift, the college development office will issue a college receipt that simply states the nature of the gift and the number of items. The receipt will not indicate any monetary value for the gift.
Circulation Policies: Students
Wabash Photo ID card
You must present your ID card when checking out materials. The card also has a magnetic strip on the back for adding value in order to use the library photocopying machines. There is no charge to replace a lost or damaged ID card. You may obtain a replacement ID card at the Center for Academic Enrichment in the basement of the Chapel (Room 13). Please call Linda Weaver (6230) to make an appointment.
Loan Periods
Books and government documents may be checked out by students until the end of the semester. Periodicals do not leave the library. Students may check out CDs, DVDs, videos and LPs for one week. Classroom reserves circulate for 2 hours in most cases. Items may be recalled before the due date if needed by someone else. A few classes have 24 or 48 hour reserves.
Group Study Rooms
The library has four group study rooms. Keys are checked out at the Circulation Desk on a first-come, first-served basis for up to four hours. Although classes may reserve a room in advance, individuals may not reserve a room in advance. Some of these study rooms have video viewing capabilities.
Fines and Lost/Damage Materials Charges
Reserves: Because these are high demand items, to ensure fair access for all students in a class those who do not return reserves face stiff fines:
Within the first hour 1-15 minutes: 25 cents 16-30 minutes: 50 cents 31-45 minutes: 75 cents 46-60 minutes: $1.00 2-5 hours overdue: $2.00 per hour Over 6 hours: automatic $25.00
Unpaid fines are forwarded to the College Business Office each semester and will appear on bills issued by that office. Overdue material has to be RETURNED; it can't be renewed, although it can be checked out again.
General Collection Material (books, government documents, media)
No daily fines. You will receive notices through the campus mail that you need to return overdue material or renew them.
If you ignore the first 3 notices, a $5.00 fine is assessed when the fourth overdue notice is sent, and a $55.00 replacement fee is added to your account for each item until the fee is paid or the material is returned.
If you damage or lose library materials, you will be asked to pay the repair or replacement cost.
Questions and concerns can be directed to Mrs. Norton, Circulation Supervisor, at 361-6330 (nortond@wabash.edu)

Circulation Policies: Alumni
You can search the Library catalog and other services from the Library homepage. Requests for Wabash books or government documents may then be made through the interlibrary loan service at your local library.
When you visit campus, you may make use of all collections and services. If you wish to borrow books or government documents, you will need to be registered as a library borrower. Wabash alumni may obtain a photo ID card from Computer Services in Baxter Hall. Please call the Help Desk at 361-6400 to make an appointment. Then present this card at the Library for registration as a library borrower. Alumni (including those living outside Montgomery County) who do not wish to obtain a Wabash photo ID may apply in advance for a library borrower card by contacting Head Librarian Larry Frye. Your card will then be prepared and ready for you at the Library when you come to campus. Send Larry your name, year of graduation, current address, telephone number and e-mail address. Library borrowing privileges are not extended to family members of Wabash alumni who are not also residents of Montgomery County.
Circulation of Materials
Alumni may borrow a maximum of 10 books or government documents at any time. Sound recordings, videos, and other media software circulate only to Wabash students, faculty and staff. Periodicals do not circulate.
The loan period for books and government documents is 3 weeks, with 1 renewal possible. Exception: we will recall any item at any time, if it is needed by a Wabash student or faculty member. Renewals must be requested before an item is due.
You will get a notice through the mail when books or documents are overdue.
Fines and Loss of Checkout Privileges
There is a fine of 25 cents a day for overdue material. Once a fine is incurred, borrowing privileges will be suspended until the fine is paid. If you damage or lose a book, we will ask you to pay the repair or replacement cost; otherwise, you will be denied checkout privileges.
Questions and concerns may be directed to Mrs. Norton, Circulation Supervisor, at 361-6330 (nortond@wabash.edu);
Circulation Policies: Community
The first priority of the Lilly Library is to serve the academic pursuits of the College’s students and faculty. Service to others in the community is offered as a courtesy. The library staff is available to help you with your reference questions, but personal assistance may be limited by our responsibilities to our students and faculty.
Interlibrary loan services are not provided for guest borrowers.
Guest Borrowers
We grant library borrowing privileges to family members of Wabash College faculty and staff, Wabash alumni, faculty and students of other PALNI member institutions, and residents of Montgomery County. Other visitors to campus are welcome to use our facilities but are not eligible for borrowing privileges.
Lilly Library Card
Wabash family members should present their Wabash ID cards for Library registration.
Montgomery County residents must show a driver's license or other current identification to verify their legal residence and pay a $1.00 processing fee. They will then complete a guest borrower registration form to be turned in to the Circulation Supervisor. A library card will be sent to the borrower's home address. Upon receipt of this card, the borrower may check out books for a period of three weeks. A parent or guardian must register in person for any person under 18 years of age.
Visiting students and faculty from other PALNI schools must present a valid campus ID or library card from their institution.
Alumni should consult our alumni policies.
