The Know Indiana component of the Quality of Life in Indiana Grant provides incentives for faculty and students to engage in academic studies of Indiana culture, heritage, and people. Whereas Experience Indiana focuses on extra curricular activities, Know Indiana is a curricular-based program which encourages faculty and students to incorporate the cultural resources of Indiana into courses, independent studies, and research projects.
Know Indiana achieves its objectives through several components. Know Indiana sponsors a student cultural internship program. This program provides summer stipends for student internships in Indiana non-profit cultural and governmental agencies. Additionally, Know Indiana provides funding for faculty/student research and course development projects. This aspect of the grant provides faculty with the opportunity to conduct research projects during the summer on topics related to Indiana; such projects can, but do not have to involve student interns. Finally, Know Indiana sponsors course-based excursions to Indiana sites as an extension of the classroom.
The Quality of Life in Indiana Grant is made possible by Lilly Endowment, Inc.
