In November, 2004, Wabash College was awarded a $1 million dollar grant from the Lilly Endowment under its Initiative to Recruit and Retain Intellectual Capital for Indiana Higher Education Institutions.  Wabash’s project, titled Quality of Life in Indiana, focuses on strengthening the perceived quality of life in our home community of Crawfordsville, the central Indiana region, as well as that of the entire state of Indiana in the hope that such improvements will prove attractive in drawing and keeping future Hoosiers who will enhance the economic and cultural vitality of the state.  The Quality of Life in Indiana project is centered on achieving three goals:

1.  Increasing the participation of Wabash students and faculty in the cultural and intellectual life that currently exists in Indiana.

2.  Providing incentives for Wabash faculty and students to engage in academic studies of Indiana and its people and use such information in courses, independent studies, and research projects.

3.  Providing a forum to allow Wabash students and faculty to disseminate their knowledge as they become advocates for Indiana’s culture.

In an effort to achieve the three goals outlined in the grant proposal, the College has constructed a three-part program titled:
