Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

First Time Applicants

Applying for Need-Based Aid
Every new student applying for need-based financial aid at Wabash must file two forms: the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the College Scholarship Service's (CSS) Financial Aid PROFILE. The FAFSA is required of all students seeking need-based assistance from federal or state governments. State deadlines vary by state, and you should check with your guidance office in order to find out what the deadline is for your particular state and to pick up a FAFSA in December.

FAFSA Process
All students who wish to apply for need-based financial assistance at Wabash College for the 2009-10 academic year must file the FAFSA between January 1, 2008 and February 15, 2009. Students and their parents can complete the FAFSA online or by mailing in a paper application. However, even an electronically filed FAFSA requires signatures from both the student and a parent before it can be processed. Both the parent and student signature requirements can be met by utilizing PIN numbers issued by the U.S. Department of Education.  Parents and students interested in obtaining a PIN must apply for one prior to completing the FAFSA. You will need to supply your name, social security number, date of birth, and mailing address, and submit the request. When the submission has been completed, a confirmation number will appear on the screen to let you know that your information was successfully transmitted.  Once the data has been successfully submitted, the Central Processing System will confirm the identifying information with the Social Security Administration database. After a successful match has been made, a PIN will be generated and mailed to your home address via the U.S. postal system or email.
