The weekend is capped by the Homecoming Concert in the Fine Arts’ Salter Hall. Come listen to the Wabash College Glee Club at 7:30 p.m. The concert will offer a sampler of Glee Club “chestnuts” as well as several new selections. Originally an Italian song, All Ye Who Music Love has become one of the most popular English madrigals of the late Renaissance. Brothers Sing On, often regarded as the “national anthem” of men’s glee clubs, revels in unmitigated exaltation, ardor, and testosterone-laden camaraderie.
Additional numbers on Saturday’s program include an energetic setting of the spiritual Dry Bones, as well as a sturdy rendition of the sea chanty We Be Three Poor Mariners, Franz Biebl’s double-choir Ave Maria, and Ecuador’s national anthem, /i>Salve, Oh Patria. Continuing a Homecoming tradition, Glee Club alumni members in the audience will be invited to join the group onstage for the singing of Alma Mater.
This year’s concert will also include photo highlights of the Wabash summer study program in Ecuador, with a focus on the May-June 2014 Glee Club Ecuador tour, The highlights will be narrated by Prof. Jane Hardy and Prof. Richard Bowen.
