| King '99 Stresses Leisure's Connection to Liberal Arts |

Assistant Director of Admissions Kim King ’99 delivered Thursday’s Chapel Talk making connections between leisure and the liberal arts.
King was a Wabash athlete and scholar who went on to earn a master's of divinity degree at Emory University. He thanked a number of people in the Wabash community who supported him taking to the Chapel podium for the weekly talk, and quoted the late Bill Placher throughout his speech.
“If our goal is to impact lives and be impacted, we must learn the value of leisure,” he told the students, faculty and staff. “Leisure is not just defined as being relieved of duties and it's not the inevitable result of spare time or a weekend. Leisure properly defined has more depth than time off task.”
He cited experiences such as Chapel Talks as a leisure activity that “confronts us to be Wabash men and not just ordinary students.”
He talked about the experience and joy of immersion learning and watching students come back to campus not just refreshed but re-energized.
“Leisure has very little to do with inactivity,” he said. “It has to do with who we become. It has to do with being involved with others. We celebrate leisure at Wabash in our traditions.”
