Field Experiences
Prior to student teaching (EDU 420/422), education students complete nearly 100 hours of field work that is embedded in our courses. This includes one week in Chicago Public Schools at the end of the junior year. Below is a list of education courses with a brief description of the field work required in each course:
Education 101 – Observations and work in K-12 schools. Students collect and analyze data related to K-12 student development.
Education 201 – Observations and work in Special Education programs and classrooms, and field trips to alternative schools.
Education 202 – Observations and teaching in middle schools.
Education 302 - Observations and teaching in a local high school.
Education 330 – Students live in Chicago and teaching Chicago Public Schools for a week.
Education 420/422 – Student teaching semester wherein students complete 11 weeks of teaching in a middle or high school setting.
