Picture of Baer, Jonathan

Jon Baer arrived at Wabash College in 2002. He teaches in the areas of American religious history, church history, Christianity and culture, anthropology and sociology of religion, and new religious movements. His research has focused on American evangelicalism, particularly the Holiness and Pentecostal movements, and the intersections of Christianity, health, and healing, and his articles, essays, and reviews that have appeared in a variety of publications, such as Church History and the Journal of Religion. Prof. Baer serves as director of Scroll: The Wabash Institute of Theology for Youth, a summer program for young men funded by a grant from the Lilly Endowment. He is also director of Callings: Exploring Vocational Identity and Purpose, a NetVUE-affiliated program at Wabash. Prof. Baer is the faculty athletics representative for the college. He has been a fellow at the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University and is as a national research fellow at the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture at IUPUI. He and his wife Carolyn are the parents of two sons and a daughter.
