Prof. Mikek joined the Wabash community in the Department of Economics in 2004. He enjoys a dialogue-based, interactive approach to teaching and is known for an engaging and vivacious teaching style. His primary teaching focus includes the hot topic Macroeconomics, the always interesting International Economics, and the popular Money and Banking. He also teaches an interdisciplinary course on Economics of the European Union and Economics of Latin America. As part of the class, he has led several immersion trips for his students to the institutions of the European Union in Belgium and Germany. He also participated in the Wabash Ecuador Program (a month long experience for our students in Ecuador) with an economics module. His rich international background allows him to bring broader economic and cultural perspectives to his teaching. His classes regularly apply theoretical concepts to particular real world policy problems, such as responses to the recent financial crisis and recession, monetary policy in hyperinflation, or the question of whether China will become richer than the US. His research is centered on studying the whole economy and its policies in the context of economic links with the rest of the world.

Before coming to Wabash, Prof. Mikek amassed substantial teaching experiences at Indiana University and abroad. Most recently he taught in China and Slovenia. He speaks some German, Spanish, Slovenian, and Croatian and takes pleasure in reading in those languages. He enjoys spending his limited free time working in the yard or playing with his kids and dogs.
